A racing license is the 'proof of skills' or 'driver's license' to participate in car races. Car races are competitions on a closed and paved (asphalted) circuit. The license is provided by the KNAF, the Dutch motorsport federation.
The CLUB license is the basic license. The driver has been found safe enough to participate (within the Netherlands) in competitions at a friendly level (Summer Evening Competition) and some beginners classes for the Dutch Championship. The KNAF requires you to take a two-day racing course for a CLUB license.
The EU license is the next step. With an EU license, the driver can start in racing classes where a higher level is required. For example, formula cars, GT cars or sports cars. The EU license is also valid abroad. The KNAF requires you to take a three-day racing course for an EU license.
For both licenses, you must show the desired driving level during the practical exam.
There is also a TEST license for 14 year olds. With a test license, a 14-year-old can participate in official test days (no races).
You have to take a racing course to be able to take the KNAF exam. So why not at RSZ Autosport, the racing school with the most experience in the Netherlands? During the course, the KNAF will conduct the theory exam and during the practical exam, examiners from the KNAF licensing committee will look along to assess whether you are eligible for a license.
During the RSZ-racing course you not only get practicetraining and theory about car racing, but there is also a special session entirely dedicated to KNAF theory. This is about the rules of motor racing. With the help of a visual presentation you will get a clear explanation about the Safety Car, flag signals and other important matters. This session and the theory exam itself will take place on the first day of the course and the results will be announced at the end of the day.
The theory exam has been completely renewed in 2020, it is now taken on iPads. The material you need to learn can be found in all kinds of regulations on the KNAF website. There is a summary in a completely new e-learning environment. This also includes a mock exam. When you sign up for a racing course, we'll give you all the information you need about how it works and what you need to learn.
On the last day of the course, each student (in small groups) has to drive 4 laps on the track. From the side, examiners assess, among other things, vehicle control, overtaking skills, speed and, of course, application of ideal line technique in bends. The examiners of the KNAF license committee then discuss their findings with the course management and it follows from this who is eligible for a license. The results will be announced during the award ceremony.
No, that is not possible. Anyone who wants to obtain an EU license must follow a three-day training course. This gives the student a broader basic knowledge of car racing and is the absolute minimum to gain some track experience. All racing training courses from RSZ Motorsports are recognized by the KNAF and are sufficient for both CLUB and EU license level.
Sometimes the KNAF can grant dispensation and give an EU assessment during a two-day course. For example, if he or she already has experience in another branch of motorsport (such as karting or rallies). The participant can submit his/her racing history to the KNAF and the license committee will then decide on this.
A student may participate in driver training from the age of 14. A driver's license is therefore not necessary. A 14-year-old may qualify for a KNAF test license. The condition is that he/she passes the practical exam at EU level (and so he/she has to do three days of training). From 15 years, the license rules as described under 2.
When you register for our racing course, you will receive all the information from us a) to register with the KNAF and b) to register for the KNAF license exam. You pay the exam directly to the KNAF. After the course, the KNAF processes all results. You must then arrange for a medical examination (you will also receive the necessary information from us for this) and then you can apply for the license. After payment of the license you will receive it at home.
The result of your theory exam remains valid for two years, the result of your practical exam for one year. This means that you can apply for your license within one year of your exam. If you do not do this, the KNAF will decide whether you have to retake the exam or whether you even have to do a racing course again. This depends on how long your exam has expired. Each license must be renewed annually. You have to do this yourself at the KNAF. If you apply for your license and you are not going to race that year, you can extend your license for one year. If you do not race again in the following year, you will have to retake the exam. The KNAF determines whether you should only do practice or also theory.
